Plans began in 2012 to look at the viability of constructing a reservoir here at Bridge Farm to be used for winter filling from the nearby River Deben throughout the winter months of high rainfall.

A grant was applied for through the Rural Development Agency and they soon approved the project as they recognised the importance of preserving excess water in periods of high river flows.

The newly constructed reservoir will also bring environmental benefits to the farm and surrounding area.

Construction began and was completed in June 2014.

The advantages the reservoir has are of huge benefit, both environmentally and to the produce grown at Bridge Farm.

Bridge farm is also participating in both Entry and Higher Level Stewardship schemes, introduced to protect water courses, encourage wildlife and benefit the environment. This has been achieved by planting wild bird seed mixes on land formerly used for arable production, and by leaving uncropped margins next to watercourses.
